Simply you need to start a strict diet. The more unhealthy food you eat, the likelier you will become unhealthy and have your blood pressure raised. Also, if u eat late at nite, cut that out. Eating to much foods with Sodium, sugar, or unhealthy food in general can raise your blood pressure. I'm Sorry if this upsets u but dieting is a good solution. At least read the labels on the food u buy.

I have another question: did you take this blood pressure reading at your local drug store or grocery perhaps? Do not thjink that a single reading of this magnitude taken at one of those locations has all that much meaning...now if this was taken with a blood pressure cuff that fit you arm(if your arm is BIG and the cuff is small--high readings result) do NOT talk or hold your breath as that results in HIGH readings...do NOT watch the numbers...even if you are at home or at a friends or at the doctor do not do any of the above as elevated pressure wiil result.

Now if you consistantly(say over the course of a month) have a reading higher than 130- 140 over 80-90 then you do need to seek medical advice. One other caveat IF your pressure is higher than the one you mentioned and you hear your heartbeating in your head or you have a headache GO TO THE DOCTOR.

BTW: Smoking will raise both your pressure and your pulse.

That is high. Make an appointment with your doctor. Tell them what your reading was and they will see you sooner. As soon as possible I would suggest purchasing a blood pressure kit. My doctor told me not to spend a lot of money. Buy the Walgreen brand. It doesn't have all the extras on it but you don't need the extras. Take it with you to the doctor and they will test it for you and make sure it is accurate with theirs.

Take your blood pressure at home a couple times a day and write them down for the doctor. Also write down your pulse rate.
High blood pressure is not to be taken lightly. Especially when most people do not have any symptoms.

It can take awhile to get the right medication and dosage for you. That is one reason it is important to take your blood pressure at home. Take it when you are resting. Take it after you have been physical and keep notes on that also. The more information you have for your doctor, the easier it is on both of you.

A blood pressure of that amount is generally treated with medication. If that reading was obtained at a doctor's office, they really should follow up with treatment for it. If this was a reading you obtained at one of those drugstore testing places, although it may not be as accurate as a doc's office, it is certainly high enough for you to follow up with a doctor about it. Normal BP is less than 120/80 and borderline BP is less than 130/90. At 160/100, your run the risk of heart disease, stroke, etc,. The medications that are available today are very effective and have minimal side effects. (You also need to have your cholesterol levels checked as high cholesterol usually goes hand in hand with high bp.) Good luck!

This is something you should discuss with your doctor. I think your doctor will have you come in frequently for a blood pressure check and then advise you of what you can do to lower it .
Meanwhile, cut out salt, excercize, try calming things like meditation or tai chi.
Most importantly, see a doctor.

Is it always high? If it is you should go to your doctor and get a stress test. If this only happens once in a while, like when your stressed, or in pain or running up stairs, then your fine.
