"Broken heart" is a representational phrase to describe someone who is extremely sad. Usually it is when they have lost a loved one. Some people get so sad, that they lose the will to live, and die just because their mind wills them to. Because of this, there is no way to say exactly what the "signs" of a broken heart are, nor is there a way to calculate a survival rate, since no one actually gets a heart that is broken.

Now if you want to talk about heart disease, that is another story....
