I have only been married three years and I am concerned about wearing the pump and it being a turn off to my husband. Can I get a women's honest opinion and some suggestions?

I am a woman and have been on a pump for nearly 5 years. This being a turn off to my husband (when I was married) or to my fiance I have now has always been the least of my concerns as my health is much, much more important to me than that. But, I do understand that it can be a real concern. With a pump, you can still wear it during lovemaking (I have a belt type of thing held with velcro that holds my pump so it doesn't get in the way of lovemaking and everyday tasks). Or, if you really want to, you can bolus (give a little insulin) before lovemaking when you know you are going to be doing so, and take it off at the cannula (insert) site for the time you will be 'busy' then put it back on. Just be sure to check your blood sugar before and after doing this to be sure your blood sugar stays in range, tho. You do NOT want to have it off for more than an hour or two, tho, or else you will be without the much needed insulin.

I can tell you this: my health has improved sooooooooooooo much since I got on the pump. I went from having A1c's of 9-11% down to 6-7%. My eyesight got better in the one I can see out of (left one is blind; right one went from 20/50 or 20/60 with glasses to 20/30 with glasses). My neuropathy isn't as bad in my fingers/hands. I have sooooooooooooooooooooooo much more energy to do the things I want and need to do every day. And the best thing is: I live my life according to my life, NOT according to the shots, eating schedule, etc. If I want to sleep in, I can because I have insulin going thru me all the time. If I want to skip a meal, I can and not have a problem. If I go out to eat and eat more than I usually do at home, I can and cover it with insulin right away from the pump. If I want to go to a function where I will be 'grazing' on food, I can program my pump to slowly give me insulin over the period of time I will be eating and know that I am covered for the food during that time. Before the pump, I was up to 6 or more shots a day and could not control it, no matter what I did or tried. With the pump, I have one needle prick (besides the blood sugar tests, that is) every 3 days!! What a major difference this has made in my life!

Personally, I wouldn't worry about what your husband would think about it, if it will be a turn off for him or not. If he loves you, he won't care. He will care about the person you are on the inside and will want you to do this to take the best care of your diabetes that you can, and in this day and age (as far as I can tell), a pump is the best way. In my personal opinion, pretty much every diabetic that has to take insulin should be on a pump for the best control they can get.

If you are still concerned about it, talk with your husband about it. Tell him your concerns and fears. Get his opinion on it. I personally think that he will probably say to go ahead and get it so you can take excellent care of your diabetes.

Please contact me via e-mail if you have any questions or concerns about it. I welcome any and all questions about the pump, the effects it has had on me and my life, etc. Good luck!

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.

Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

I couldn't disagree more with the person who said it would be a turn off to your husband and he would be afraid to sleep with you..... that is ridiculous. If the pump will help you maintain your levels better and live a longer healthier life, your husband should understand that and encourage it, not feel turned off. When I wear mine through out the day most people think its a pager, and if your big concern is when you have sex, you can actually take it off and all that's left is a small round bandage with a plastic part on it. When your done hook your self back up, that's it. If your husband is willing to sacrifice your health for a little bandage, you should be questioning his thinking not the pump. Good luck

I wish I could afford on 15 years ago. I would not have the diabetic side effects I have now. The pumps are very small and, if you have an understanding husband. He'll see it as a boost to your health and an improvement to your life, no turn off, but ask him!

My cousin is diabetic and has the insulin pump. Actually it is not unattractive to wear. Looks like a beeper. Her and her husband have had 3 kids since then so I dont think it was a turn off to him. Your husband will think you are beautiful and as long as you have your health is what should matter.
Also, my best friend had both breast removed after battling breast cancer and her husband thinks she is the most beautiful woman on earth.

I just unhook mine because sex lowers your blood sugar anyway so you probably won't even need it then. My husband thinks it's neat because he's really into high-tech gadgetry. Plus, men love skin, and the pump has less irritation. Still some, there's a little bruise sometimes, but the site isn't that ugly looking. It's not too bad.
Although if you don't disconnect it before you have sex it can be the biggest pain in the butt/thigh/stomach. You get tangled in your tubing and it's terrible.
If you unhook it you're totally fine.

Your husband won't be turned off by it, you will be fine. You can disconnect when you get intimate and set it on the night stand. What's left on your body is not that out of the ordinary. You probably will be more attractive now because you will lots less red puncture wounds from only be poking yourself with a needle once every three days instead of multiple times a day.

he'll get used to it. it'll probably be harder for you to get used to it constantly being attached to your body but you'll get over it. the tape can leave discoloration on the skin and the old sites can become red bumps that stick around for a while, that'd be the worst part your husband has to see. the pump can be disconected at any time and the sets can be removed completely if you need to. i've taken it off for full days before while at the beach and took many injections instead. give it a try, it'll give you freedom you never realized you could have.
