Starve means you get so hungry you begin eating things people would never think of eating like some people have boiled horsehide and ate the result of the boiling. You begin to hallucinate and picture food.

Oh sure they can, so long as they did all the test requirements before they do. I'm sure blood banks out there have tests for vampire STD's and other vampire diseases. I think they do something with the vampire blood so that the person who is transfused (?) with the blood will be safe to go out on daylight... (wont work on vampires though, poor guys). Before vampires hose out the number one source of bodily fluid that let them stay alive, they look for people to kill and eat and have a good ol bloody thirst quenchie. More people killed, more blood to donate... how humane.
