My niece sent me a cook book as a gift from her trip to Hawaii and its got a lot of mystery ingredients. These two seem to show up most and in the greatest quantity. If they aren't available here, can you suggest some substitutions?

Shoyu is what you call "soy sauce."
And Aji is Ajinomoto what you call "Mono sodium glutamate"
MSG for short.
