I just went thru diabetes classes and they covered this. The amounts recommended for red wine is:
Men--two 4 oounce glasses daily
Women--one 5 ounce glass daily
Red wine will raise HDL cholesterol (the good choldesterol). BUT, if you have high triglycerides (200 or more), then you should NOT have red wine, or any alcohol. It will be more damaging at that point than helpful.

This is what I have been told and have read, a female can have 4 oz.a day a male 8 oz a day. But if you take pills for your diabetes then none at all (diabetic medication sometimes works with the liver) If you are on insulin just remember that when you have alochol in your system you liver doesn't release any sugar just the alochol so if you have taken an insulin shot be cautious, even if you have eaten you body may not have any sugar going around to mix with that insulin. I am a type 1 and (on rare occasion) drink a little wine, if I plan it out then I'm good.

Moderate consumption of red wine during a meal preserves plasma antioxidant defenses and reduces low-density lipoprotein oxidation and thrombotic activation in type 2 diabetics, research suggests.
Previous studies have shown that meal consumption induces oxidative stress and a hypercoagulable state in diabetic patients.
5 oz a day for women
8 oz a day for men

if you take insulin eat a lot of food. drink early in the evening so you can eat a good bit before bed and then run your sugar a little higher than normal to avoid a low during the night. you will probably wake up in the morning lower than you want. beer is better because of all the carbs, wine is a little too hard to control.
