Yes. There is a restaurant in my city that serves Shark Bites...basically shark nuggets you dip in melted butter. Tasty!

Shark is definitely edible. You should know what kind of shark you have before deciding to cook it up and serve it to people. There are over 350 species of sharks and shark meat can be very salty (just depends on where the shark lives); however, many species are edible. Shark meat is delicious when properly prepared. Good source of protein as well as other vitamins and minerals.
You do need to be careful because shark meat like king mackeral, swordfish and tilefish can contain high levels of toxins - paticularly dangerous for pregnant women and children.

Shark is not only edible, it is excellent eating if prepared fresh and handled properly. The meat is firm, lean, and very healthy. The liver is even used in medicinal products. I've had mesquite grilled shark steaks many times and never once had a problem with it. Shark meat should not make you sick unless it is old or not kept fresh as with any other type of fish/seafood. As a general rule with any kind of seafood, if it smells bad and tastes bad then chances it's not fresh and not worth eating.
Additional note: Shark is in fact a fish. You might be confusing it with dolphin or whale which are mammals.

Yes, shark is edible. It's a wonderful substitute for scallops. It's great with melted butter and garlic. People who are allergic to shellfish, but not other types of fish can sometimes eat shark instead. It's very tasty and, like other seafood, it's good for you. It's possible the shark went bad if it wasn't chilled soon enough after it died. Fish meat and shellfish tend to spoil very quickly.

You just had some bad shark.
Every year in the Ft.Walton area there is a Mullet Festival. In which Shark, Alligator, Octopus, Mullet and an assortment of other foods are sold. My kids eat there every year and have never gotten sick from the shark.
Plus shark fin soup is also very popular.

It sounds like you got a bad shark. It's unusual to refer to it as shark fish to begin with so I have no idea what aquatic lifeform you were eating. When a fish is not for eating, the taste might not be great but you generally wouldn't get sick. Getting sick from fish comes from it being old, badly handled or from tainted water. Tainted water enough to make you sick is generally fresh water. Mako or the smaller nurse shark are extremely good to eat. There is only one central bone, firm white flesh and can be used in most receipes that you would use swordfish or large scallops. In the Caribbean, when the fishermen bring shark in, people line up to get one before they are all gone. I like to cut into 1 inch thick steaks and saute with garlic, onions, tomatoes, olive oil and top with torn cilantro or basil leaves, sea salt and fresh ground pepper.

Here in Hawaii it's called Mako, and is a favorite. On the mainland, a lot of fish and chips places are serving shark (though they don't usually mention that) because shark is cheap.
Also, shark fin is sometimes cut into circles and substituted for scallops.
