Is called albuminurea...happens in diseases that affect the small filters in your kidney called glomeruli..the most common cause is Diabetes but Hi BP and other diseases can cause it too.
Initially in DM (usually after about 5-10 years) there is very small amounts of albumin that leaks into the urine ...this is called microalbuminurea & is usually not detected by the regular urine test..later of course the ammount increases until it can be detected on routine urine testing.
There is a set of renal diseases called Nephrotic Syndromes in which the kidney leaks large ammounts of albumin >3gm in a day. They happen due to a variety of reasons and need specific treatments..People with Nephrotic Syndrome have high cholesterol levels and high risk of blood clots. They have fluid build up in their legs etc.
Small kids sometimes have a form called minimal change disease which resolves with steroids.
Finally albuminurea in Diabetes is excellent reason for the pateint to be on ACE inhibitors a class of BP medicines.
Hope this helps..

Blood work will tell you what your albumin level is. A health level 132. Passing protein in the urine is an indication of problems for a diabetic. If the level gets too high, kidney problems are indicated and the Doctor may suggest dialysis.
