How does a person knows what kind of HSV she/he has if the person has boths types of outbreaks?

The others have given you good sites to check out. The definitive method is a simple culture to determine what virus it is. It used to be said that HSV-1 was only oral and HSV-2 was only genital. But it was found that one can be spread to the other region by kissing or oral sex.

In all practical matters it does not really matter which type it is, what matters is that you get treated and learn about the illness and how not to spread it to others. Good luck

Maybe both! Sometimes a blood test can be done but, it's not the usual procedure. It doesn't matter really though. Get valtrex!
