I am a pub landlord and I get very strange looks when I try to be helpful and offer to push my customer's stool up for them.

people always laughed when I was a 'checker' at a bingo hall. I think it's because it was an embarrassing job! I had to stand at the end of a few rows with a microphone waiting for some old biddy to shout house and I had say 'checking for a full line on the blue card' then read all the numbers out. I would rather say I packed fudge...I think!! Ummm, now I think about it, you have to be careful how you word that. lol.

After having read some of the above answers,I now understand why people start laughing.
Maybe you should change your job title to Fudge Sorting Technician or something else!!
Never mind what people say,at least it's an honest job and you pay your taxes so what does it matter what people think of you.

I don't find it funny. I never thought anything about until I read the other posts. I guess those that laugh have a dirty mind. I would love to work around anykind of sweets. Maybe I wouldn;t be so skinny!!

i like to eat the fudge and suck it out of its container after i pack it. then i like to add some of my own cream to the mix. Quite a treat indeed.
Fudge packing is great, really slow and gentle , or rough. Dont forget to grease the pan, good lubrication is essential.

tell people you pack sweets instead. saves the harsh laughter. a friend of mine used to pack fudge at thorntons and he got stressed about it too he got bored of people taking the mickey so he told them he packs ipods. they soon changed their views lol...

I can sympathise with you. I used to have a job mixing school dinner leftovers to feed to the pigs, and was known as a "dinner masher". Undignified.
