Unbelievable - the blue ones were fantastic for wearing the kids out xxx

In Namibia you still get the artificial blue smarties - I guess Africans just aren't considered as important as customers in the UK. Anyone suspect the smartie-makers (is it Nestle?) decided to offload all the blue smarties over here where they knew noone would complain? Mind you, don't really get what all the fuss was about the artificial colourings, are they really that dangerous for you? Apologies for an answer that is basically a question!

I'm really unclear on the application of the word 'artificial' here. As Smarties are not a naturally occurring item (they don't grow on trees) then there is a sense in which any colour is going to be artificial, in that both it and the item it coats are manufactured items.

I'm equally baffled by the notion of 'organic' food, as it seems to imply that food not so labelled is 'inorganic', and yet is is clearly the case that all food, whether vegetable or animal in origin, is organic!

basically no I don't believe that but I have heard that the
red ones are made from beet juice.. some fools think beetle
blood but that's fiction for sure! Some say the yellow ones are
banana but I don't believe it! I eat the read ones first to get rid of them fast cause they are the worst!
Remember this: Do U eat the Red ones Last?
No I eat them Fast
Cause they aren't the best
Than I eat the Rest!

Do U eat the Red ones Last?
And then hide them fast
Cause they aint the best
And Eat the rest
Slow or Fast
Did U eat the Red ones last?

I know there's other Jingles to do with Do You Eat the Red Ones Last? But that could make this go one for ever.. maybe I'll ask the question on Yahoo.. but not yet.. I want to get to level 4 before I ask any questions!

Goody2shoes it's not a myth! Smarties aren't vegetarian, the red ones have colouring that is made from cochineal. These are killed to produce red and orange food colourings.
Nestle doesn't have them as being vegetarian on their website so don't eat them if you are one!!

yes, if they advertise it then it legally has to be true.

But notice how there are no blue smarties any more. that is because there is no natural blue colouring - only an artificial one!

:-)

It's not artificial but the E120 is made from crushed beetle juice so they are still not vegetarian. Sad but true. I miss them so much even after 17 years.

I think we are missing the real issue here.
why did they abandon the old tube, whioch you used to be able to jump on and fire the cap (which usually confoundingly had a random letter on) intot he middle distance.
i cant eat em as a vegan anyways, esp due to the beetle question. which must be rank even to you omnivores.
