Some examples I can think of:

- They eat snails (escargot) in France and Quebec.
- Roasted cricket with Pepsi is a delicacy in Saudi Arabia.
- Dog meat is no stranger in Thailand.
- Barbecued rats are commonplace in China.
- Trying Madagascar Cockroaches is a must if you visit Six Flags in U.S.

Wow, you can write a series of books on this subject. But just to name a few.

Mexicans / south american like bugs. From beetles, ants, tarantulas, locust, worms and lavaes.
The chinese are crazy about dogs, cats, rats, bats, snakes, turtles, and just about anything that breaths.
There was an Italian cheese with live worms in it. The Vietnamese eats baby duck still in the shell. Korean and Japnese eats small, whole, live fish and octopus.
And the chocolate lovers eats anything covered in chocolate. From garlic, crickets, pickles, peppers and you name it.

Bottom line is, if it doesn't kill you, it's potential food material. :P

The worst and most disgusting dish i have ever heard of is the "3 squeaks dish" from China. I doubt any of us normal human beings will ever eat it!

3 Squeaks Dish: It is actually eating live baby mice (new born)
The reason for the name is how people eat it,and the sebsequent squeaks from the mice when people eat the dish.

Squeak 1: Pick up the mice with the chopsticks (a cultlery chinese use to pick up food)

Squeak 2: Dip the mice in soya sauce

Squeak 3: Put the mice into your mouth and bite/chew it

Hence, they call it the 3 squeaks dish.

YUCKS!

Before I had friends from other countries, I always thought eating bugs was a myth. From their mouths to my ears I know rats, dog, and all types of insects are eaten. Recently my neighbor went to Nigeria, where she is from. She told me she was able to have one of her favorite snacks which is deep fried ants. They are really big ants and they collect them right from the soil.

What I really learned was to have a true appreciation for growing up in the US. They eat what is available to them; the other option would be starvation.

Hmmmm...don't even have to change countries for that! I'm a yankee in the south. Deep fried pickles? Deep fried Twinkies? Then again, my southern husband accuses me of undercooking all vegetation! And I'm sorry...squirrell is not passing these yankee city kid lips! On the other hand, he'd never touch baked brie!

Iced tea is strange in the rest of the world.
Deep fried things are not common in Europe.
Chocolate covered bugs are delicacies in certain countries... I like locusts covered in white chocolate.

It's not a myth. We were watching Most Extreme one day, and there is a delicacy in Italy called "maggot cheese." Now there;s something I wouldn't try, and neither would my Italian husband!
