As a type 1 diabetic, a healthy snack for me would be a package of crackers (you can buy small packages of crackers in stores) and some low carb low fat fruit snacks. When looking at snacks look at anything 15 carbs or less and low in fat with protein.

Well anything with carbs causes us to need insulin (fruit, bread, candy, even dairy). So that doesn't leave you with much. (Who wants a veggie snack bag?) LOL So, how about popcorn and other non-food items. Depending on the age, it could be just about anything.

Try giving them fresh fruit, apples, oranges, bananas, etc. They can have some popcorn, crackers with cheese or peanut butter, summer sausage, and of course, baby carrots, celery, cantaloupe, fat-free foods. Some sugar-free candy, but be conservative with this as it has a laxative effect for many people.

1 ounce of beef jerky or peanuts is only around 6 grams of carbohydrates. String cheese sticks.
