Because Humans are Carnivores. Same reason why you don't see a lion eating apples. Some animals eat meat, some eat veg's. Its called nature. Any human that only eats veggies loses years off there life, because the human body was not ment for veggies alone.
Im sure we know/heard of people living to be over 100 years old right? How many of them do you remember saying "I ate nothing but fruits and veggies all my life"? NONE!!

Well, it is not true that the whole world except hindus are non-vegetarians. Buddhists Jains and Sikhs are vegetarian too. Actually it is the geographical and climatic conditions that contribute to the trend. Also religion to a great extent influences Food habits.
For example, it is impossible to find green vegetables in very cold places llike alaska and siberia.the only meal one can get there is Meat.
another example, religions other than hinduism like Isalm, Christianity and Jewism were born or founded in countries which already had a history of Non-vegetarianism. So no restrictions were imposed on its followers too.

All Hindus are not vegetarians. There are some groups that come under Hindus.Out of those,Bramhins and Vaishyas are Vegetarians. They beleive that harming animals is a great sin.So, in they do not eat non-veg(flesh).But they use milk and milk products. They consider cow as 'Mother'.They do not use eggs too.Jains are too orthrodox. They are the most sincere vegetarians. They don't even eat the vegetables that grow underground! There can also be non-Hindu vegetarians.

Even many Hindus are Non-vegeterians and a Hindu friend of mine who has been to USA , GERMANY AND UK even eats Beef . But it is partly due to the Climatic conditions,Geography also. It would be very difficult for an Eskimo living near North Pole or a person in very High Mountain "not" to be vegeterian.

Don't think only Hindus are vegetarians. There are lots of people now in Europe and several countries who are strictly vegetarians. People all over the world are beginning to realise importance of a healthy vegetarian diet.

You are not aware of what is in front of you. I remember as a kid having to get braces on my teeth. I was so upset because I thought nobody else has braces on their teeth and I am going to stick out like a sore thumb. The next week I spent my time checking out how many people in my school wore braces. There were alot of them! And as an adult starting to have kids, I wondered if there were any moms out in my neightbor who had babies too. Same thing, I found lots of them! Vegetarians are found in every place of the world. You just need to be aware and start looking around.
Also, as I tell my children, who cares what the whole world is? (Or at least your preception of it). You are you, and experience your life the way you want to experience life. If you think eating animal flesh will keep your body healthy and you don't mind that an animal was specifically killed for you to ingest its flesh, then go right ahead. Research is showing that this is not the healthiest way to live, and for me the guilt of having an animal committed to death for my taste buds is not for me. I am aware of factory farming, and I have seen how meat is processed from animal to the ground round in the supermarket. These images are truth, and I now know it - it isn't just some little voice in the back of my conscience that mumbles about how this meat came to be here, cause it screams it now everytime I think about a juicy prime rib. I've enjoyed many cuts of meat in the past, but with my awareness I can never go back, because I can survive without animal flesh and its products (and am healthier for it).
Become aware.

a lot of people are vegetarian and vegan for reasons other than just religion. Some people are concerned about the ethics of eating animals and animal products, others have health reasons, and others just don't likethe taste or idea of eating animal products. There is probably a strong cultural factor in that most people with non-vegetarian parents are raised to eat meat. However, many people later give up eating meat and animal products when they are old enough to make the choice for themselves.

Lots of Indians are vegetarian, those who are not eat meat on occasion only.

Very few Indians (Exception,Paris, Muslim, Buddhist, Christan, some Hindus) have meat or even fish, and that matter eggs in their daily diet. With the price of meat sky rocketing, and the health issues, even these people are not using meat as much on daily basis.

My estimate is that more then 75% of the population cannot, stand even the smell of meat and fish cooked or uncooked.

Of the 25% that eat meat do not touch beef, those who eat beef are very careful, about it, it is difficult to find good quality beef in India.

By the way I myself have some meat, Fish or eggs in my diet on daily basis.

I believe it has a lot to do with climate and environment. Most of the world has lived in climates that do not allow growing of vegetables and fruit year round like India does. India is kind of a Paradise in that way with a culture that has lived for thousands of years intact in a temperate climate. So vegetarianism is natural and also fits with the Hindu beliefs as well.

Say in Northern Europe, they had to eat meat to live so it became a cultural habit.

To me it is practical. My family has lived in the American South for 100s of years and we are all big vegetable eaters and I am vegetarian. We can grow a garden year around and for us, it became a habit.
