It is like christians or muslims or Scientologists. I don't mind them unless they try to force their beliefs on me. Then I tell them to f*ck off.

I honestly don't care what anyone does. As long as they aren't pushing their beliefs on everyone else. Quite a few people do that though even if not everyone does. So it is true that a few bad apples spoil it for others.
I think a big part is because alot of people feel you are not getting all the nutrients you need for a balanced diet, alot of which are found in animal products. I personally am a carnivore but I can go without meat and dairy on occasion. But it's not healthy to give those up though.
Even if you look at the vegetarian celebs, there have been a number who were required by their doctor to eat animal products in order to get all the nutrients they need.

At first, being a vegetarian takes a lot of self-discipline. Therefore, I think lots of vegetarians are pretty militant at first - a lot like when someone realizes they don't need alcohol anymore and they see how others have a problem with it. Or how new Christians are always trying to convert everyone else. Or those people who are suddenly against premarital sex after being fairly promiscuous.
When you get excited about something or feel strongly about it, you can be fairly obnoxious. I don't think it justifies the hatred that some people have for vegetarians. I usually just assume that my decision not to eat animals has made someone else feel guilty or start to question their behavior and that makes people upset.
I will admit like most people who believe in what they do for an ethical reason....I believe that I'm right. Think about it this way: are all of you meateaters out there okay with me having an abortion? Because I think that animals deserve to live, too.

In order for you to be respected for your decision to NOT eat meat or drink milk, YOU have to be respectful of people who do eat meat and drink milk.
I have been vegan for quite some time and am only now starting to feel comfortable in my veganism. I respect the right for people to eat meat and have dairy, because I remember that I was just like that. How did I get to the place I am at now? It wasn't because I was yelled at by someone to stop eating meat and that I was a murderer of innocent animals. It wasn't because I felt guilty about all the animals being killed every day, every hour, every minute, just so I can put a piece of its flesh in my mouth and savory its taste even though I've covered it up with ketchup and mayo. It was because I started looking at all the research out there on obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and many other diseases - even cancer, and started to see the connection between eating animals and disease. I went vegan for health reasons, which 20 years down the road the rest of the world will start to see (after the baby boomers and their kids start dying from all those diseases).

People dont always take the time to understand others who are different or believe different things. Also, a lot of ppl have been raised with the whole Meat and Potatoes, 3 squares a day, food pyramid idea; many of them lack the nutritional know-how to understand how you can get your protien and correct nutrition without eating meat. The only really legit reason I can think of though, is if its someone who cooks for you (this was my dad for me when I was little) who keeps having to make a seperate meal just for you and gets tired of it, but that doesnt sound like what you're talking about. Most people just aren't that tolerant or respectful of those who make different choices. Who knows, maybe they're insecure about their own diet decisions.

One of my best friends is vegetarian. I see nothing wrong with that lifestyle. Although I am not judgemental of vegans, I do have some qualms with veganism--if a domesticated cow isn't milked, it could die. Eggs are not baby chickens because 99.999% of the eggs that are sold have had no chance of being fertilized. Organic food does not necessarily mean that it was grown in a healthy way. But, if it works for you, it works for you; it's none of my business and I have no real right to judge here.
My only real issue with EITHER is that there are some who refuse to let us omnivores eat meat around them. Or, if they do, they give us judgemental looks, make snide comments, or call us killers. That's not fair either. If we don't make comments about you refusing to eat meat, you (not specifically YOU, but a general you) shouldn't judge us either.
I've actually considered going vegetarian a few times. But, I'm borderline anemic (it runs in my family) and iron supplements tend to make me pretty sick. My only real option is to eat meat.

There is nothing wrong. I respect that ....but I agree with Kaytee! Don't make meat eaters feel bad. I choose not to eat red meat and people make fun of me for that but I just ignore it! One day they will grow up!!!

I do not see anything wrong with vegans and vegetarians, as long they respect my decission to eat meat and don't call us killers and carnivores. Two sides of the same coin...

Nothing bad about being a vegan but it's not so easy to be one. Don't just consider meat but you think of giving up shrimps, crab, lobster, fish, calms, cockles, are you willing to do so/
