Try to realize its the flavors, and textures you are craving, NOT the dead flesh.
Boca substitutes are pretty good, I prefer morningstar, but they have eggs, so no good if you are vegan..
try having their buffalo wings with a ranch dip, or one of the Chicken Patties, in a frying pan with a little cooking spray. Put it on a roll with a slice of cheese(or uncheese!) lettuce, tomato, honey mustard, and it will rival ANY fast food chicken sandwich, cruely free!
Good luck, just try to satisfy those craving with the topping, and textures you usually get with the meat, and remember that a life didnt have to end so that you could have a sandwich..that should make you feel all better!

When you get these cravings, eat the soy substitutes (they're in the produce or health food section of your grocery store)... I know it's not the same... So quit watching the cooking channel...
and if the cravings still don't let up, go to websites that talk about animal cruelty and what they do to the animals before they kill them... Like did you know some companies (like KFC) cut the beaks off their chickens so they can't make noise? Eating from there only supports this. I know not eating meat doesn't make a huge difference, but at least you know you saved the life of a chicken or two somewhere along the line... it mattered to that one. :) I know a lot of people don't get it, but that way you'll know your conscience is clean. Good luck!

Morningstar makes may meat substitutes. Check out your lock freezer section. My kids love the Chik Patties and Nuggets. I have used the fake chicken and beef strips in recipes. Also the the Crumbles are great in spag sauces, and chilis.

Hi Sweetie!
I just discovered El Burrito brand soy sausages! OH MY but they're fantastic!!
I get them at Whole Foods. If you freeze a soy item, it gets more chewy - more meat like.
Then I heat it over a low heat in a skillet with just a bit of olive oil to keep it from sticking. Then a little Nutritious Yeast - NOT brewers yeast. And some either soy or tamari. Makes a great cheese sause.
The Nutritious Yeast is loaded with b vitamins. Makes your skin look GREAT!
The apple one is my fave.
To the one who said not eating meat isn't helping animals, you couldn't be MORE wrong if you tried.
The Average vegetarian saves the lives of about 95 animals per year.

My favorite chicken is the Chicken flavored seitan. I bread it and fry it. It's great!
I also like the Whitewave chicken substitute. I stir fry it in soy sauce! Make the chicken-free gravy from the packets in the health food store and serve with mashed potatoes and biscuits....yum!
I used to have crazy cravings like you before two things: 1. I started cooking and buying vegetarian cookbooks 2. I stopped thinking of animals as food.
If sewer rat tasted like pumpkin pie, you still wouldn't eat it, right?
:^)

Cravings are perfectly normal. Everyone has them, whether it's for chocolate cake on a lo-cal diet or fried chicken on a vegetarian diet. You can try the quorn and morningstar farm chicken substitutes, but I know they won't be the same. Just focus on something else and the cravings will eventually start to fade. : )

I think you can still eat meat and be an animal activist at the same time. Because not eating meating isn't helping the animals any. You can do other things to help the animals

if you object to the treatment of chickens in captivity (the small cages, not being able to move, etc.), you can find companies that sell free range chicken, which is raised in a more natural enviroment. you can still object to the mistreatment of cage-bred animals, and be an animal activist, and eat meat. you just have to educate yourself about it more. better to eat the things you want in moderation than to deny and be unhappy. find a middle ground that works for you.
