I woke up on Friday with a cold, had the usual runny nose, eyes, sore throat, cough on Saturday, and Sunday. Some fever kicked in, a cough has kicked in and gotten worse. I found a couple tiny spots of blood that I coughed up this morning, and I have found that for two days, when I first wake up, the phlegm I coughed up was yellow, but goes clear all day, and the snot is bright green when I first wake up, and then clear all day, but I read that on day 2 of a cold, the mucous is supposed to go green or yellow, but mine is clear on day 4 still and I feel really bad - headache, body aches, and I've had some low fevers... do I have the flu and should I work through this or go to the doctor because I am exhausted!

Rule of thumb is if the mucous is yellow or green you have an infection. Clear is good. So looking it that way, you probably have the dreaded flu. Sorry, but there is not a great deal you can do for the flu except pain medications and time. Hope you feel better soon!

You obviously have an infection. You won't be any good at work if you feel that bad anyway.
Your symptoms could mean a number of things. I would go to the doctor and get antibotics to clear (whatever it is) up quicker in order to feel human again. WHY suffer if you don't have to??
It is better to miss a couple more days than fighting it on your own and missing more days of work.

You should go to the doctor. All signs you have indicate an infection which should not be taken lightly. It is not an ordinary flu so let your health be the priority of the day. I believe you are entitled to have a sick leave. Have a check up to receive due treatment, take rest for few days, drink lots of fluids and increase your vitamin C intake.♥

Sounds as if you have an Upper Respiratory Infection. Get yourself to the doctor, get treated, and go home and relax.

Hope you feel better soon.

P.S. Make sure you drink plenty of water, it will help with the phlegm and keep you hydrated.

See a doctor. It sounds like you have developed an upper respiratory infection and if you let it go it could turn into pnemonia.
