Does anyone know how long it takes to work? Is it good immediately? Some things I know take a while to 'kick in'. Then how long does it last? A lifetime? Or do you have to keep getting 're vaccinated' the way you do with teatnus for example?

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States is currently in the midst of phase III trials of a vaccine against HSV-2. The vaccine has only been shown to be effective for women who have never been exposed to HSV-1. Overall, the vaccine is approximately 48% effective in preventing HSV-2 seropositivity and about 78% effective in preventing symptomatic HSV-2. Assuming FDA approval, a commercial version of the vaccine is estimated to become available around 2008. During initial trials, the vaccine did not exhibit any evidence in preventing HSV-2 in males.

There is a new vaccine out for HPV though, is this what you meant? Herpes and HPV (Human papillomavirus) are two VERY different viruses. There is a new vaccine for HPV called Gardasil and has so far had great results. Check out these sites for more information:

I got diagnosed with herpes virus (type 2) about three years back, when I was still in college and had a foolish one-night stand. I realize lots of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a huge mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for my entire life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date men again. After all, who wants to go out with someone who has sores round her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/oNfEv everything changed.

Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the herpes simplex virus from my body in less than 3 weeks, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so fortunate to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This system provided the chance to be happy and experience true love again. Now I want to help others too by sharing this story.

There is a vaccine out that is new for HPV which is the human papilloma virus, (genital warts). I am pretty sure it is a one time vaccination. Good luck.
