I guess you want English food to be taken home to you? First of all, check the customs limitations! Often meat and dairy products cannot be imported into other countries without an import license and health checks. And remember, liquids cannot be carried into the cabin on flights to the States.

With that warning, onto the food and drink.

It depends where in the UK your boyfriend is going. English cheeses are good. I recommend blue Stilton and Wensleydale. A traditional way of eating Wensleydale is with a rich traditional fruit Christmas cake and a fine malt whisky. English white wines have been really good in the past few years with the hot summers southern Britain are now experiencing but for the quintessential English drink, it has to be cider. For the really adventurous, a young cider called scrumpy is the thing. Once opened, it has to be drunk immediately as it won't keep.
For Scotland, it has to be a real haggis. Don't ask too many questions has how its made, but a real mutton haggis is hard to beat. I'm sure he will be able to get a good one in London though.

Soda bread is a Irish thing really. I'm sorry, but only my mother has the best recipe for that...

What I would really recommend is for your boyfriend to pick up a cook book that has recipes from the different regions of Britain. People are usually amazed at the diversity.
British cooking has a poor reputation and I believe that this has come from the quality of restaurants in the UK. This is changing however. The best of British cooking is amoung the best in the world.
