There is a reason the Dr. wants you to drink plenty of fluids when you have congestion or unproductive cough. Fluids tend to break up mucus plugs in you lungs and airways and allow you to bring up much of the material causing the problem. You will be surprised just how much this simple remedy will help.

pussnboots333 is right about the humidifier and the vic's vapourub, but you could also try honey in tea which usually works very well! Oh, and what about strepsils?
