I'm looking for ideas that'll be fun for a group of people to get together and just enjoy (outdoors and/or indoors). It's also a celebration of a 28th birthday. I'm thinking of a morning activity that can lead into an evening activity, so that those who can't make the AM activity can go to the PM activity. The b-day girl hasn't celebrated her b-day for the last 5 years, so I'd like to plan something really nice and FUN for her and her friends. I'm also trying to explore options beyond the usual dining/clubbing, but am open to venues of the kind if it's something unique. I'd appreciate any help...Thank you.

From now until about next May, anything outdoors in San Francisco will be pretty cold and rainy. Come into the city and spend the morning shopping around Union Square (Saks, Nordies, Neimann Marcus, brand new Bloomies, and every designer boutique on the planet). Then go spend a relaxing afternoon at SFMOMA, just a couple of blocks south, and do it on a Thursday so the museum and the Caffe Museo are open late. Maybe fit a little spa time in there somewhere? The new spa in the W Hotel is terrific and also in the same neighborhood, or Spa Nordstrom is consistently good here too.

Go to the Oakland Museum of California (http://www.museumca.org/) for the day. Then, travel down to Jack Londons Square for a dinner at one of the many fine restaurants there. See: http://www.jacklondonsquare.com/dining.php for choices! At Jack Londons Square there is also the Potomac, FDR's presidential yacht, and other maritime attractions. Enjoy.

The "gender illusionists" at AsiaSF make for a unique experience.
Food is good too (but pricey).
