Diabetes is not classified as a disability. Complications caused by uncontrolled diabetes can be disabilities. Your entire body is invoved. High glucose level can lead to loss of circulation in your legs/feet, kidney failure, heart problems, etc. The key is to control the blood sugar with diet, insulin or pills. Not necessarily. Disability is not always the result of being diabetic. However, when diabetes interferes with activities of daily living to a sufficient extent, it may be said to 'cause' disability.
I have diabetes. It does not interfere in my activities of daily living, therefore I have no disability secondary to it.
If a person had say -- lost a leg -- or sustained brain damage as a result of diabetic coma -- or something equally horrible as a result then diabetes could have caused that disability.

Most of the time it is not a disability. People get along just fine for all of their lives on diet and medication. If diabetes is not taken care of, it can lead to feet and leg amputations, heart disease and blindness - not to mention death. The complications from diabetes can lead to a disability, but not necessarily the diabetes itself.

i don't think it's classified as a disability so much as a condition.
there may be effects of the condition that may cause a disability like an amputation that would leave one in a wheelchair but for the most part it's just a health condition.

It depends one what kind of diabetes you have - there are different kinds - and yes if you have the really bad kind it can be -My step daughter has 1 kind and it's not but my brother had a different kind and it was - it did lead to his death-if you don't take your meds. right and watch you diet and take care of it ,diabetes can be real bad -some people have lost a foot or leg to it.
If you e-mail me I will find out for sure the name of the kind my brother had for you.
