I had an STD check with blood tests. I tested positive for Type 1 Herpes (oral Herpes) but I tested negative for Type 2 Herpes (genital Herpes.) So what does this mean? Do I have an STD? I've never had an outbreak or anything.

If you tested positive then you have a sore somewhere on your body, or inside your mouth that you are not necessarily aware of because a test typically only shows positive when there is an outbreak somewhere. You do not have an STD per se, but you still have to be careful because Type 1 Herpes CAN be spread through kissing and/or oral sex and become an STD. I recommend that you take a Lysine tablet a day for about a week.

Cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1) is not really considered an STD. It can be spread other ways other than sexual ways.

The herpes simplex virus also causes shingles and chickenpox (herpes simplex virus 3) but neither of those are considered STDs.

Herpes simplex virus 2 is typically genital herpes and IS considered an STD because it is mainly passed by sex.

Oral herpes is caused by the herpes simplex type 1 virus which is highly contagious and spred by physical contact. About 70% of Americans have it by age 14. Once you are infected an outbreak can be caused by stress, sunburn, etc. Then try aspirin, ice, milk, Lysine, zinc oxide, wwitch hazel replace your toothbrush and do not kiss anyone or share drinking cups etc.
