In addition to the above (limited education, poverty, large families with children born with the disease) war and fighting over territory has been an unfortunate factor. Armed militia go into villages and slaughter the men then rape the women and children, passing along the virus to them. The statistics show a large number of females in the population contracted the virus from being raped by men who had HIV/AIDS.

It is a very sad an unfortunate thing. Many people don't receive an education on STD's in Africa. Thankfully organizations like the One campaign and Product(RED) are helping to educate and fund medicine for the populace in Africa. If you want to do something to help join with these groups to help stop poverty and AIDS.

Because unfortunately most people in africa are not educated about aids. On top of that they have large failies which can help to spread it. Not forgetting of course they have limited or no acess to the drugs they need.
Whats more in the rural area's when they has been a drought, people who have been given AIDS drugs often sell them to pay for food which is more important.

Another unforrtunate cause is that the Catholic church in Africa has doen everything in its power to stop educaiton about safe sex and condom use (including stockpiling and burning condoms).

This, of course, will not and has not stopped people having sex, so the virus spreads.

Also, the quality of the condoms in Africa is very poor. They tend to get lumped with the batches that are rejected by Western countries.

Poverty is number one cause.Second, limited access to medical facilities and health education regarding AIDS.Third, the onslaught of war between the rebel forces and the government thus, restricting the medical aid from other countries to reach the people.

Unprotected sex is the primary reason the HIV Virus is spread so widely. Thus, in countries where sex education is minimal, where condoms are not readily available, where medical testing is not affordable (meaning people cannot fidn out if they are infected until they infect lots of others), and where people are opposed to using birth control (ie. condoms) they dramatically increase the risks.
