Cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1) is the most common kind of herpes. I've read about 75-80% of the world has cold sores.

Genital herpes (herpes simplex virus 2) isn't as common. About 1 in 4 women (25%) have the virus and about 1 in 5 men (20%) have genital herpes.
