It really depends. If a guy asks you, then he foots the bill. If a girl asks, she foots it, and if you're torn between the two. Go Dutch so no one feels that they're being used or whatever on a first date, and then you can rotate, next time i'll pay next time he'll pay. But luckily, I don't have that problem. My dates don't mind paying for me. But push comes to shove I can pay for a meal... Lol.

I was brought up that if he asks you out he pays!
I personally would not date a man who allowed me to pay at the beginning of a relationship!
But, I would not call him either, southern gents are the best!
After dating a while, sure I would pay, or bring food over!

I think there are two ways you can do it;
1. Whoever suggested the date should be allowed to pay, but it is not a rule.
2. The gentlemen should be allowed to pay because this is a sign of respect and since most people think that gentlemens have to act like gentlemens, in this situation, the gentlemen will pay.

I always ask for a separate check on a date. At least before I was married. It avoids confusion and expectations, if you know what I mean. My husband paid for our first date despite my protests to pay. I was uncomfortable with that, but it all worked out. But I'd never assume anyone, date or friend or family was going to pay my way.

If a boy asks you on a date and you want to impress him, then you should pay the bill. HE won't expect that.

For the first date, if you invite, you pay.

After that, seperate checks unless otherwise discussed.
