I am vegan for health reasons and would not eat the egg (full of cholesterol). The saving of the chicken would have to be by something different, say the GreenVegan superhero would have to come in a save the chicken!
Most vegans would say that by not eating the egg I am saving the chicken. If there was no demand for eggs, then keeping a chicken in a cage would not be required. Chickens would then not be breed to lay eggs, and the population would dwindle down. Chickens would then only be seen in the wild and at low populations. Same could be said for all domesticated animals. We could then go back to the Garden of Eden days.

Of COURSE we would.
This is really a question ONLY vegans should be answering, instead of people guessing what a vegan would do.

Put into the (highly unrealistic) situation where someone had a gun pointed at a hen's head and asked you to eat an agg to save it, of COURSE most vegans would eat the egg. However this is not the situation under which eggs are produced and sold, you are hurting chickens by demanding their eggs for food. So this is a purely hypothetical situation.

But this isn't what veganism is about. If you held a gun to the head of a republican's daughter and asked him to vote democrat to save her, of COURSE he would! This is a stupid question.

I am a vegan, and my husband is a vegan, and we have vegan friends and we ALL agree that in that situation a vegan would of course save the chicken, don't listen to the bulls*** any of these non-vegans are spouting, they are absolutly clueless as to what veganism is about, and likely have never even met one.

And to the person who mentioned vegan views on abortion, I'll have you know I don't believe in abortion for that exact reason, that a life is a life. I won't be the knowing cause of any death. Yes there are vegans who believe in abortion, many, but try actually meeting some before making retarded blanket statements.

You obviously imply that you have a chicken by the throat and the vegan could save it by eating an egg. I didn't think anybody would have to explain this.

It is a good one and I'm going to ask the next attention seeking veggie I hear of.

I personally would insist you slit the chickens throat and through it on the barbie and we would have a chicken and egg supper.

Oh heavens no! A vegan couldn't do that! But a vegan WOULD kill an unborn child to save convienience for an adult human. Something to think about.

Nope...anyways, the chickens that lay eggs (for sale to the public) will only die from old age or some sort or disease.
