I understand how vegans want to be a part of some cult to feel special. However, I would like some advice on how to convince a friend to include a little animal flesh in his diet. This friend is very weak and pale. I am worried about the effects of a vegan diet lacking in complete proteins that you can only find in animal flesh.

First off, veganism is NOT a "cult." It's a lifestyle choice.

And you can't convince your friend to include meat in his diet. However, you could just tell him to eat more or eat healthier food. As a vegan myself, I know you can follow a vegan diet and still get complete proteins. He could also take vitamins, such as the GNC vegetarian multivitamin, which is formulated especially for vegetarians.

This person is not a vegan in any form or fashion there is no semi-vegan just as there is no semi-vegetarian either you are or you aren't. Plain and simple. It would seem that maybe this person is a vegetarian but not sure what animal by-products she would be eating. Really your friend is trying to be "cool" and call themselves a vegan while still exploiting animals (in this case for food) It is the same as the meat eaters who call themselves -etarians it is a lame cop-out. If you cannot be vegan than you don't call yourself one. Tell your friend to either be vegan or be lame fool and call themselves that actively.

Tell your friend to try superfoods in his/her diet to get a little more strength in his/her body. Superfoods such as the organic greens, spirulina, chlorella, or any other green algae. Spirulina has proteins in it that are complete. Superfoods have chlorophyll in it which the body can use as a building block for red blood cells (your body just kicks out the magnesium ion in it and puts the iron ion in it). And red blood cells can make your friend look not so pale and weak.
In a vegan diet, you still can get complete proteins. You just have to be smart in what you eat to get them complete. The research says now that the proteins don't have to be complete in the meal, but just throughout the day that you are eating. Protein comes from beans (legumes), grains (wheat (bread, pasta), rice), and vegetables (some are more than others). Protein is not the only nutrient that your body needs. You can still be a vegan and eat pop and frenchfries and not be healthy. (In fact I get so mad at people like that because it gives us healthy vegans a bad image for the public!). Don't be a vegan of ommission (not eating food that is presented to you), but a vegan of progression (eat what is good for your body and the world).
As a vegan out in the middle of meatlovers land, there is no cult out where I live. Alot of vegans on the cyberspace are in the same place as me. We are definitely a minority, and one that is not supported or wanted. I feel very special, but it is one that doesn't leave me feeling all warm and loving.

Maintaining a vegan diet does not achieve cult status. People who are Vegans simply wish not to contribute to the slaughter of animals and will not wear clothing made from animal hide or fur. This is a personal choice.

Actually, you can combine proteins perfectly well using vegetarian ingredients. The book, "Diet for a Small Planet" is a wonderful resource for someone who wishes to maintain a vegetarian lifestyle and teaches readers how to successfully combine proteins for maximum health results.

I have been a vegetarian for years. There are immense health benefits for vegetarians, so I don't think you should worry about your vegan friends unless they are not eating the right foods to get enough vegetable and legume protein, in which case you might wish to try to help them with maintaining their life choice by helping them understand the best way to eat for their lifestyle.

Being vegan is not a cult nor is it for everybody. If you are truly his friend and not judging him you should get him to a doctor - it may not even be his diet that is making him weak and pale.

dude what the hell is with you hateing on vegans? veganism is not about being in a cult and being special it about being health or love for animals you asshead there are other ways to get proteins like nuts, beans, seeds, tofu, and a bunch of other stuff vegans can eat. how do we convince some assheads to not be so close minded? and i don't think your going to convince vegan to eat "animal flesh" b/c being vegan means not eating animal flesh or any processed **** that is bad for you and will clog your arteries and give you diabetes and **** i bet you don't even know any vegans

You won't be able to get him to eat meat if he doesn't want it. If he is weak, he can get all the proteins and nutreiants he needs from meat, from beans. He can also take this excellent multivitamin from GNC. It is quite in expensive and it has all the vitamins he will need and then some. Here is the link http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2133432&cp=2167069.2325071.2108497.2108481&parentPage=family
I hope you stop convinceing him to eat meat though, its a waste of time. I am vegan and i ditched the people who kept at me tring to slip me meat and got new friends that supported my vegan lifestyle

You cant convince someone to do what they dont want to do. You should be able to get some kind of supplement at your health food shop which makes up for what they are lacking in proteins etc.If they're really that bad then its a GP they need to see

You won't be able to convince your friend to eat meat any more than he can convince you to stop eating it. Would you like it if someone tried to tell you to stop eating meat?

There are lots of vegans out there who are doing just fine. Your friend is probably not getting enough vitamins and other supplements.

Just let him get on with it, the poor benighted twit. If you try to sneak some animal flesh into him he'll certainly find out and that will be the end of a beautiful friendship. If he is really ill from undernourishment, by all means tell him so and advise a visit to his GP.
