False cabbage heads, as they say " I don't anything with a face" well fish have a face, and feel distress when being caught, and probably wonder what the point is when laying on deck slowly asphixiating. Of all the animals we kill for meat, fish probably suffer the most, but some people must think that only mammals suffer. Dumb Dumbs. But I don't have to worry about it because I BBQ them all.

Pescetarians - but everyone who knows the correct term has already told you that.

For the other people who say these people are not vegetarians, could they explain how such people are to describe themselves when buying food.

Surely you don't expect them to sit and list everything they do eat.

Most people who eat fish, shellfish and dare I even suggest it the occasional piece of chicken have to say vegetarian but I also eat x,y,z - otherwise they would end up fed all sorts of meat and meat products which quite frankly might make them ill or feel poluted in some way.

I note the oyster sauce comment above but I have only ever come accross oyster sauce (Chinese) made from oyster mushrooms not oysters - never thought there really was an oyster sauce. I am left to wonder what country produces a sauce from real oysters....

A vegetarian is described by Websters Dictionary as:

1 : one who believes in or practices vegetarianism
2 : HERBIVORE

Technically there is no strong defintion for vegetarianism except "one that practices a vegetarian diet" -

An herbivorous diet however, is described as "feeding on plants"

So there is no technicality that says a vegetarian couldn't be someone who eats fish - However, it is common thought that the vegetarian diet excludes animal fleshes. - There are names for vegetarians who include eggs (ovo-vegetarians), dairy (lacto-vegetarians), or both (lacto-ovo-vegetarians).

There is, however, a newer word that is not entirely seperate from vegetarianism that includes the practice of eating fish specifically - That word is:

pescetarian (PES.kuh.tayr.ee.un; PESH.uh-) n. A person who supplements a vegetarian diet with fish. —adj. Also: pescevegetarian, piscetarian

I hope this helps.
Enjoy!

No there can't be a name for vegetarians who eat fish, because there's no such thing! A vegetarian doesn't eat flesh, fish or fowl, therefore somebody who eats fish is not a vegetarian. And if they call themselves that, they're a hypocrite.

No,there is no such thing as a vegatarian who eats fish.

However there are meat eaters who exclude mammals and poultry from thier diets, they are called Pescatarian

We have this question so many times and those fish-eaters need to do us all a favour and start using the corrcct words, it confuses the heck out of people.

See this question:

Yes. "Hypocrites." Vegetarians do not eat animal flesh of any kind, so you cannot eat fish and call yourself a vegetarian.

This must be a trick question because obviously a person that eats fish is not a vegetarian.

Yes, liars. Fish are not and never have been a vegetable, therefore if they eat them they are NOT vegetarian. They do feel pain but they just aren't cute and fluffy, so I guess as they don't have a nice face wannabe vegetarians justify it that way. Seems like a poor effort to me.

you know I dont really know. I just want to say that I am a vegitarian and the ONLY exception is the occasional fish sandwich/shrimp sandwich from McDomnalds or Lotteria. And it does hurt to know that a whole bunch of strangers can just dis out on another person. So why dont you go get a life and stop ruining other peoples. youre not Simon Cowell!!!!!!!!!
