Antibiotics for sinusitis
Examples
amoxicillin (Amoxil, Larotid, Trimox)
amoxicillin-clavulanate (Augmentin, Augmentin XR)
ampicillin (Marcillin, Principen)
azithromycin (Zithromax)
cefaclor (Ceclor)
cefdinir (Omnicef)
cefpodoxime proxetil (Banan, Vantin)
cefprozil (Cefzil)
cefuroxime axetil (Ceftin)
clarithromycin (Biaxin, Biaxin XL)
gatifloxacin (Tequin)
levofloxacin (Levaquin)
loracarbef (Lorabid)
moxifloxacin hydrochloride (Avelox)
telithromycin (Ketek)
trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim, Septra)
All the above are recommended for sinus infections. There is not really ONE best one. It would all depend on if you are allergic to any medications or not. Also if this is chronic and they keep coming back maybe talking with your doctor about the pros and cons of surgery to correct this. Be careful with taking antibiotics on a regular basis as this can cause resistance to many things.

I have been plagued my whole life with apparently horrible sinus anatomy....and the dreaded infection. Firstly, try not taking ANY prescription medications at all....down the line most prescription medications only cause other problems. remember that. Secondly ... and this is going to save your life: buy a Friedrich C90-A air purifier....or some derivation thereof....and not some silly ionic breeze from sharper image either. Getting an air purifier has absolutely 100% changed my life. I'm somewhat of a health freak and having fresh air has taken away getting sinus infections altogether. Thirdly, get a small humidifier for night-time....it'll keep the flem loose which harbors the bacteria. Taking only one ibuprofen every 5/6 hours will help in any inflammation. Don't rely on doctors, they're only there to maintain your sickness, not cure it... remember that. Lastly, go to a health food store and find the "medicine man/woman" and ask them to help ... oh, and acupuncture helps as well. Anyhow, I really really wish you good luck as I know it completely sucks to have what you have. By the way, a friedrich purifier is around 500. or so dollars, but just remember the best air purifiers MUST move the air to clean it. So, if you cannot afford the friedrich there are less expensive ones that will do good work....research through consumer reports (NOT digest) and find out for yourself. email me for any support you may need.
smile.

Ask your doctor for a prescription for the duo of Nalex and Prolex. They work in conjuction to shrink sinus tissue, and blockage. Also it keeps the drainage from entering your lungs by "drying" it up before it gets to you lungs.
I hope you feel better soon!
