Since oysters do not feel pain, is it ok to eat them and still be a vegetarian?

Thanks Nighttrainwoowoo, I told my friend to at least eat something with protein in it. I go fishing a lot and I have access to fresh oysters. I eat them, but I prefer to eat the other fish I have caught. On my way home from my fishing trips, I can just drop the oysters off at his house. He needs the protein because he is very skinny and he lacks in complete proteins you can only get from flesh.

No because its still meat. An oyster is a living creature, not a vegetable.

I think they taste like fleghm in salt water anyway. Truely horrible.

They're animals. If depends on how vegetarian you want to be, and on the reasoning behind your decision. Personally, I don't eat any animal, regardless of how sophisticated its nervous system is. In my eyes, an animal is an animal. Saying that, I used to eat fish because the majority of fish leads a free life until it's caught, as opposed to being farmed. Think of it this way- where do you draw the line? If you say oysters are ok, then what about snails? What about crab? What about tuna? What about shark?

No, you're not a vegetarian if you eat oysters because oysters are living creatures, whether or not they feel pain.

Your comment about your "friend"'s diet being lacking in complete protein doesn't justify them eating meat. You can get by perfectly well without meat - a well-balanced vegetarian diet will provide ALL the proteins, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins and minerals you need.

No you are not a vegetarian as oysters are seafood. Vegetarians don't eat anything that once lived.

This means that anyone that eats any form of fish is NOT a vegetarian, despite what they tell you.

Some vegetarians choose to eat eggs and/or milk, which still classes them as vegetarians as eggs and milk aren't animal flesh, only the by-products of animals.

However VEGANS don't eat eggs or cheese as well as not eating anythin that once lived.

I hope that is sorted out...these types of questions are getting really old now.

WHO TOLD YOU OYSTERS DON'T FEEL PAIN.

They should be shot and you're a fool for believing them.

All animal life feels pain, just prick a live one with a toothpick or other sharp object and see if reacts or not.

And your dumbness is further emphasised for asking the question anyway. If it feels pain or not is irrelevant an oyster is not a vegetable/plant, thus can not fit into a vegetarian diet.

Who told you oysters don't feel pain? Oysters are mainly eaten raw, and live. True vegetarians only eat fruit and vegetables. But maybe lettuce scream too? Homo sapiens is equipped with teeth suitable for eating meat. It's the way we are.

Absolutely not!

No one who eats anything that was once alive is a vegetarian or vegan.

I would like to know how you know with 100% certainty that oysters and fish and any such sea creatures do not feel pain.

Oysters are animal, not vegetable. I have met so-called vegetarians who eat fish saying that fish is not meat. They are totally wrong.

Therefore, if you eat oysters; you are not a vegetarian.

who says oysters feel no pain?

as to eating oysters being okay for vegetarians, what plant family are oysters classified in? after all, that is what vegetarians eat, if they're veggies and not fishetarians or poultretarians. and in that case, they're called omnivores who don't eat mammal.

Well, clinically, oysters count as fish and fish are part of the animal family. For this reason, we can safetly conclude, that you are not a vegetarian.
