I gargled water today after brushing my teeth, and when I spitted it out, I noticed blood with the water I just spitted. I thought it was gum problem, but it wasn't. I spitted again and found blood on my sink once again. I did this thing, where you usually do to spit phlegm out (even if I didn't have any phlegm stuck in my throat that time) your mouth, and I saw blood again (but not as plenty as the first time I spitted). I had a cold yesterday and when I woke up today with a very soar throat. When I was a kid, my mom made me drink 2 types of medicine for 6 months because my brother had tuberculosis, although I'm not sure if I cought it too. I'm kinda scared to tell my mom this. What should I do? :|

Blood was probably due to vigorous brushing and local injury to small blood vessels. TB has other signs and symptoms. Blood in sputum is a very late sign in TB, and is hardly seen nowadays. Blood in sputum is mixed with sputum, comes out with coughing and is usually rusty in colour, rather than bright red. Relax.

It's serious because you have your history taking two types of medicine. It's tuberculosis. You said when you did it the 2nd time like when you do to spit phlegm you so blood again it's just not an ordinary gum problem. It could be tuberculosis and you have to treat it for 6 months. Go for a doctor for an x-ray.

Well I wouldn't rule out tuberculosis, just to be safe, but what it sounds like to me is some capillaries (tiny blood vessels just under the skin) broke in your throat causing you to have a minor bleed there because your throat was sore and raw. It can also indicate an infection from the virus (your cold), both of which are way less serious than TB.

It could be normal, just spitting out the old mucus, and it looks red becuase of the excess blood left behind, it's like spitting up a lugy, but you should still check with your doctor, just to be on the safe side.

I think you need to tell your mom. Why are you scared? Is it because you don't trust her, or are afraid that she won't believe you? If you don't trust her, you should talk to your school nurse or counselor and tell them that you think that you are ill but don't feel comfortable talking with your mom. Or you could talk to your friend's mom, your grandparent, aunts, uncles, or other adults that you are very close to. I think that it isn't healthy to spit blood. I have been sick many times in my life and never have spit blood out. Wait, actually I have once but that's when I had my tonsils taken out when I was 8 years old. But other than that, I've never spit blood out. Thus, I don't think it is normal to spit blood out.

I dont know how old you are- but you need to tell somebody. There are several types of tb that are easily treatabel, IF you get treatment right awat!. If you hold ifff you might not be abel to treat them. Plus it may not be ANY THING AT ALL. But you wont know until you have been tested.! GOOD LUCK! PS, Poor typist< but decent medical student!

If you didn't cough it up then I wouldn't be too worried. You really should tell your mom because if it is something then she can get you to the doctor before it gets worse. Not to mention, Mom always make things feel better.

Relax. I spit blood often after brushing or flossing my teeth. It is not TB, or you would have been told when tested for it.
