One of my jobs at one point in time was to draw blood on HIV patients. Not having the disease or being afraid of contact with those who do myself, I was just wondering how the general population felt about this. Please don't be hateful in your answers.

Absolutely not. If a patient has HIV, people tend to be extra careful.
On the other hand, just because a person doesn't know they have HIV doesn't mean that they aren't infected.

I had to work with HIv patients and I had to draw blood as well. at first I was really scared because I didn´t know anyone with HIV and I was scared about the blood drawing. When I saw my first patient with HIV I was amazed to see that he looked really healthy, I couldn´t believe he had HIV. As time went by I satrted loosing the fear and my blooding skills were improving too. Slowly i realized that if I concentrated when drawing the and if I took all of the neccesary precautions, like wearing globes, being carefull with the needle, etc. It wolud be really hard for me to sting myself with the needle, and besides it felt so good to be helping this people. I always tried to treat them with respect and mostly I hid my fears from them because I thought that the last thing they needed was to feel that I was afraid of them or that I was scared of them. So just relax and remember that in this situations you can do a lot of good to this people, believe me, they´re really gratefull, so I wish you the best of luck!!

I am not afraid of them. My goddaughter is hiv positive. Her mother has AIDS but she didn't tell anyone nor did she seek treatment while she was pregnant. Because of this my goddaughter is Hiv positive. I love her with all my heart and I have no problem hugging, kissing or touching her. She is a delightful 7 year old.

No, the risk of infection was way overstated and almost direct contact with the blood is needed for cross over infestation to occur. The fear is just paranoia and unwarranted.

i think most people are for sure apprehensive about those with aids but for the most part those who are afraid need more education and facts on the disease.....
