I was eating Tiger Shrimp earlier and for the first time I noticed that on their backs they have these long strings. They are almost like little spines running up their backs and under the meat. I was so grossed out I couldn't eat them. What is this?

It could be the veins. When they are cooked those are supposed to be removed? If that is not it, I'm not sure...

You ate some poop shoots! I hate that, good thing you stopped. More often than not the restaurant workers cut them out before serving. Sorry

everyone so far that's said "poop" is correct. The line is like a small vein (to us) and normally contains a lot of sand, that's why a lot of places will remove it. And you really should before cooking it too...

Ewww yuk it's their intestine tract. You're meant to remove that, as well as the legs & head but some people eat it, to each his or her own I guess but yech.

They're veins, and if they're dark the shrimp has been slightly overcooked.
