I'm just curious about the experiences of other people using this drug. I've been told by a nurse that the belly is the best site because the drug is better absorbed. All the information says both are fine.

Having given enough subcut injections as a nurse, what my patients tell me is to give it where it is most comfortable. Generally that is in the belly because as your nurse has stated the absorbtion can be better there. But the thigh can be just as good as long, as well as your bicep area assuming your not to thin. My nanna is also a belly person and just alterates where she does it on her tummy to keep it comfortable.

Usually when using Lantus, this ends up being a lifelong thing...something you will do for the rest of your life. So, after injections daily for years, scar tissue is going to build up, no matter where you use. This is going to decrease on absorbtion.
The best mindset, is to plan on using all sites that you can, including training someone you know to administer your insulin whenever they are available, using your back sites (back of thigh, upper hips, back of arms). The less you use a spot, the less scar tissue. If you divide your stomach into a grid, with one inch squares, you can get over 40 sites on the stomach alone, approx 20 on each thigh, so that is 80 days without using the same site. Hope this helps.

I have been taking lantus for about six month's now, I inject in upper arms lower stomach, and thigh's. I have found the stomach is the least pain full for me. From what I have researched any place is fine in these areas where there is fatty tissue.

Best Places To Inject Insulin

There would still be a trace of one or the other left in the syringe. I recommend if you must reuse the syringes, to mark one Lantus and one Humalog then use them twice. That way there would be no chance of mixing one with the other. I used markers, green for Lantus and red for Humalog for a while, because I couldn't get to town to get more syringes. Do be sure to clean the needle and bottle top with alcohol.

Thigh is best - slower absorption at thigh, and Lantis should be absorbed slowly and last a long time.

There are a BUNCH of articles on Lantus -

search Lantus and there are about 30 articles.

You could easily contaminate both bottles causing the wrong dosage of the correct insulin. Also a needle dulls very quickly and hurts more if you use the same needle twice. In an emergency it is better to have the insulin instead of going without but I do not suggest making a habit of using the same needle more than once.

Forget anything you have ever been told about Diabetes.

And get this - it has nothing to do with insulin, exercise, diet or anything else you've heard in the past. It's all based on latest breakthrough research that Big Pharma is going Stir Crazy to hide from you.
