A vegetarian diet is the healthiest there is, and you don't NEED meat for protein, as so many illformed people will tell you. That's what people in the west have been conditioned to think. In fact there are many sources of protein in a vegetarian diet including eggs, cheese, soya products, lentils, beans, chickpeas, nuts, seeds. Make sure you have some of those everyday and you'll be fine. You also need several helping of grains/potatoes everyday for your complex carbs, and of course a good variety of fruit and veg. You'd be doing your health a hge favour by going veggie - no more heart disease risks, obesity, and a much lower risk of cancer. You'll also feel better and look great! And obviously you won't be contributing to animal slaughter or environmental problems either.
Have a good look at some vcegetarian websites on the web which will give you a more detailed description of the health benefits, then go for it!

i would have to say it is definitely better for you. many studies have shown that eating an "animal-free" diet is the best way to avoid diseases of affluence. these diseases would be obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease (heart attacks and strokes), osteoperosis and cancer. a really good book to read would be the "china study" by campbell. he compares the chinese diet with the american diet (chinese people consume no dairy and get roughly 7 % of their protein from animal products). he shows that when chinese people start to eat a western diet like that in the US, they also become victims of many diseases that we consider normal diseases of age.... you do not have to subject yourself to these diseases! it's easier than you may think and there are many ways (despite what everyone will tell you) to get your protein. if you are worried about muscle development... think about the vegetarians you might know... they are probably in better shape than most of the meat eaters you know. i just ran a 26.2 mile marathon and i'm a vegetarian. many athletes are vegetarians as well. meat is considered to be the best form of protein because it contains all of the protein that we need. it is true that no single vegetable has all the protein that we need, that's why it's best to eat a variety of vegetables... most of us do this anyhow.

Hopefully you are open to making the change and she isn't trying to force her lifestyle on you. I was vegetarian for a while and thinking of going back, but i wouldn't ever ask my boyfriend or fiance to make the change as well. :) Plus, he's a carnivorous fellow anyways. XD

It's hard for a man especially. Men need the proteins from meat for muscle development. Protein is the hardest thing for a vegetarian to properly bring into there diets. I would say do plenty of research before making a diet change, you don't want to make yourself sick or weak.

Well obviously vegetables and fruits are very healthy for you, but eating meat is necessary for your health too. There are somethings that vegetables lack that the meat provides you. Besides~~~~~ meat is just soooo good, how can you not eat meat? I mean steak, bbq, etc. But well I found a page more about vegetarian diet, maybe this could help you. But seriously you should reconsider, meat is still good for you ^^
