You don't necessarily have to go for surgery. I'm 30 years old and I was diagnosed early and I've never had any problems...don't let a doctor try to push you into surgery unless it's absolutely necessary...some doctors are "surgery happy"...be sure to get opinions from several doctors. Good Luck!

Mitral valve prolapse is the most common valve disorder seen. Even with trace regurgitation, you probably will never need surgery. That being said, you should probably have an echocardiogram done of your heart every few years to make sure the valve hasn't changed. As long as the left ventricle (the main pumping chamber of the heart) isn't getting too big, you should leave it alone. The only thing you should do is talk to your doctor about taking antibiotics before going to the dentist or before medical procedures, as the valve is at higher risk for infection than a normal heart valve.

When I was in my 30s I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse. I am now 64 and only recently started taking medication for my blood pressure. No serious problems through all of these years. During that time I was also addicted to drugs and drank a lot of alcohol. Those days are behind me but just wanted to let you know what I put my body through with the same condition. Never get surgery unless it's absolutely necessary. I get the palpitations and tremors from time to time and just blow them off.

initially, you're able to desire to talk on your well-being care expert. they might extremely answer your questions greater useful than absolutely everyone here. yet, i will inform you that your condition can certainly be very common. I certainly have a family contributors member with a similar component and he leads an fairly typical life and could no longer want a valve alternative. If he engages in very actual interest (alongside with taking part in soccer), he does get drained actual, yet different than that, he's effective. In case they did no longer clarify it to you (evidently they weren't very informative) here is going: Your mitral valve is nearly somewhat door that opens and closes on your heart. once you have a mitral vavle prolapse, what meaning is that once that valve swings close, it closes and definitely swings IN somewhat too a strategies. (Ever seen a swinging door? comparable concept) This motives somewhat of a leak. it extremely is something which will might desire to be checked each and every few years in the time of your life, to ensure that it would not worsen. touch your well-being care expert and ask her or him those questions, just to be on the risk-free component.
