At least there are a few sensible people who responded to your question, first spicy food will not kill you give you cancer or cause you to explode in your sleep, they have done study after study and it is actually good for, so these nay sayers who like to give out cheap advice, well take it with a grain of hot sauce.
The qualitys in all the things you mentioned have all sorts of beneficial propertys, chilis are good for your heart, onions and garlic for your blood, hot spices like curry, cayenne and other dried chilis have lots of vitamins and mixed with other veg and bean promote a healthy diet.
There are only 2 things in this world that are bad for you smoking and taking the advice of people who have nothing better to do, I am a former chef, I eat spicy food daily, when I eat out I go to Indian and Chinese places that serve spicy food, I will be 50 next year and still have all my hair, teeth and my stomach while large is not full of holes from to much spicy foods, eat up and enjoy!!!!

Not for people who are used to it, it isn't.
In India, adding spice to the food is routine - what maybe bland for some Indians will be considered 'too spicy' for people not used to such cooking. However, it is a gradual process - I didn't start eating spicy food from the day I was born - it was introduced gradually and became a part of my life.
And contrary to what some may say, we dont use copious quantiities of chilly powder - just enough to spice up the food (dont go by restaurant standards as most of them hire sub-standard cooks anyways)
If spicy food is bad, India wouldn't be have 1 billion population, but would be struggling for survival.

If you already have gastric problem or high acidity which cause gas (gastroesophagal reflux), spicy food certainly worsen it.
The spicy food would as if 'paralizing' the esophagus from expelling gas (burp) so the gas would accumulate and make you hard to breath. And to your gastric lining, it is very bad, similar feel if you have cuts on your knee and add hot chilli sauce there.
If you don't have gastric problem, then you can enjoy spicy food as much as you want!

Not everybody can handle spicy foods as for most people that do not like or intake much spicy foods they have a low tolerance which can cause health risks
Like people have said and as a rule to follow too much of anything isnt good, if you are able to handle alot of spicy foods then it will be fine for you to have them in large amounts as your body has adapted and is adequate for it, you know if you cant handle it if you start having heart burn or your bowl movement becomes irregular

As others have pointed out a lot has to do with what your body is used to. Period. My father in law eats the hottest green chili sauces he can find, he loves his food that way (REALLY spicy). He is 78, has all his teeth, all his hair (which is still jet black) works 5-7 hours a day, drives everywhere (in Mexico City no less!) and is absolutely healthy as an ox!
Many Indian food sites can actually list out just which parts of the body and digestion each and every spice in Indian cooking is good for. Most spices have VERY beneficial properties for health.
As far as onions go, they are a VERY healthy vegetable in every way. Garlic, well there is simply no healthier food than garlic in existence. It has long been considered a herbal "wonder drug", It is good for your body in so many ways, its hard to list them all, it is a powerful, broad spectrum anti-biotic, it is used to combat acne, as a natural and effective mosquito repellent, a powerful anti-oxidant which protects the body against damaging "free radicals," it is also extremely useful in combating cold and flu symptoms and reducing harmful cholesterol.
It also tastes just wonderful.......

NO, it is not bad. I ate lots of spicy food. I think my first child loves it so much because I ate it so much with him. Just be careful of the heartburn that may follow.

No, eating a variety of spices (and foods in general) allow for diverse nutrients to enter your body. Of course, eating an extremely large quantity of anything is going to be bad for you, but I'm assuming your not thinking about taking down a half-pound of oregano in one day.

It can be hard on your stomach lining, but then too much of anything is bad for you. Moderation in all things. But at the same time that too much is bad for you, chili pepper and garlic based dishes are good for your heart and blood pressure so don't give then up all together.
