I read an article in "Newsweek" a couple of years ago that mentioned research that said sugar and fat stimulate the same sites in the brain as addictive drugs, alcohol, and nicotine do. It's very interesting that sugar goes through a refining process very similar to that of opiates, cocaine, and other drugs do.

An older definition of the term drug was any substance having an affect on the body. But by this all food, air, water would have to be included.

The neew definition runs something like "A substance used in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of a diseas" So NO sugar is not a drug.

Of course you'll note all herbals fall into the drug category.

No but I guess it could have drug-like effects if someone takes way too much of it because obviously its not good for the body if consumed in large quantities and I mean ALOT! The body needs sugar but too much or too little can also kill you or cause health risks.

I think any sugar that is not natural should be baned as a drug. I'm thinking High fructose corn syrup. That should be outlawed.
