Yes, marmite and vegimite are both perfectly safe to eat. The USDA currently has to ban import into the US because of the high levels of folate it contains. The laws regarding folate in foods apply only to cereals- and have not been updated to reflect foods like marmite and vegimite. They aren't in high demand here in the US, so there's been no reason to change the law. Silly, but thats the facts. Anyway, the only concern eating high amounts of folate would be if you were deficient in other B vitamins, since the folate would cover the anemia it would cause. But if you eat a good balanced diet otherwise, or take a multivitamin, and especially if you are a female of reproductive age, pregnant, or wishing to be pregnant some day- it is a sensible and good addition to the diet. Millions of people eat it every day, and have for years, without any real adverse affects. Children eat it, adults eat it, grandparents eat it. They are both perfectly safe.

Marmite or Bovrine has a good effect to improve cartilage build up. Helps in arthritis and rheumatism. But I suggest if you want pain relief go for glucosamine or chitosan.
If you're in only for taste, then read about MCD first.

Of course it is! It's made mainly from a yeast product of the brewing industry. And we've been consuming both beer and Marmite for years without too much damage to the nation! It's delicious on hot toast, too.

PS Hedzyhedz... I liked your comment. Made me smile. :- )

Yes it is safe. Vegemite was supposedly banned from import due to high folate content. BUT the folate is not added and so the ban, if there ever really was one, has been rescinded.
