I am throwing a 50's party and I need some ideas on what to serve as food. For dessert I am serving malt milkshakes, but I am stuck for appetizers, dinner, ect...

appetizers can be corn nuggets or breaded mushrooms or a small bowl of chili.
definitely burgers, pickle spear, and fries or onion rings (you can make both fries and onion rings and let them grab what they want) OR maybe chicken strips and mashed potatoes with maybe a large chef salad.
For your sodas, you could have a few spuirt bottles of vanilla, chocolate, or cherry flavored syrups so they can make their own flavored drinks.
Don't forget the 50's music!
Have fun!!

I agree with DavidNH -- Meatloaf and mashed potatoes would be great. Either that or burgers, fried chicken, or fish sticks with macaroni and cheese!

I don't remember appetizers as being very popular in the 50's. I remember soups -- chicken noodle, tomato, vegetable (alphabet) soup.

TV dinners were very big in the 50's. See if you can get some of the little aluminum trays with three sections to serve your main course.

Appetizers: onion dip, meatballs in bar-be-que sauce, fresh veggies and sour cream dip.
Main Course: Baked sphaghetti, mac 'n' cheese, tuna casserole.

Ground beef, wide curly noodle, whole canned tomatoes, and Worchestershire sauce casserole. Brown beef, drain fat, place in casserole, add other ingredients, bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 4 minutes until noodles are al dente.

Appetizer - Homemade vegetable soup
Dinner - Meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, peas (canned peas for extra realism, but fresh or frozen peas taste better)
Dessert - Jello with fruit

Alternate answer: TV Dinners

The 50's - I was there.

Canned soup casseroles became BIG in the 50's.

My mother made those cute little finger sandwiches with the crusts cut off. And something on ritz crackers with a garnish. Deviled eggs with a green olive on top and paprika. There could be fondue, but I think that came later. Definitely jello. Mom made one that was lime jello, cottage cheese, walnuts, pineapple, and green olives. She also made a killer salmon loaf with cream sauce.
