I went to the doctor on Wednesday and she prescribed me Biaxin and Flovent 110. I also have asthma, but I havent had any symptoms for about two years. I have been fighting this for about a week and have been off of school for three days. My chest really hurts when I cough and I havent been able to sleep well. This doesn't feel like asthma, but I am worried because I am not getting better.

Okay so I called my doc again today but I couldn't get an appointment with her but I got in the office with the Nurse Practicioner. She said she could hear lots of rales, and then promptly got the pulse oxygen machine which measured 94% with me on room air. Then measured my peak flow which was about 290. When I am totally healthy I am about 430 or so. She said that I should give the antibiotics the weekend, and then precscribed a prednisone pack. Said to call back Monday if I am not feeling better, and if my peak flow drops to 220 or lower to go to the ER. She also said that since I am not running a temprature right now that she doesn't think it is pnemonia but she didn't rule it out either. Is she just giving me the run around more? I still feel pretty crappy.

No, I don't think your Dr./Nurse are giving you the runaround. I also have asthma, and used to get chronic bronchitis, every year, as a child. I havent had it in about 2 years, thank God, but I'm also really careful to stay away from people who smoke, I do mild exercise, and take care of colds really well! Your chest hurting when you cough is normal, so is the not being able to sleep, and so is the shortness of breath, I get all those. You're probably feeling more rubbish because you cant sleep well. Give the drugs a couple of days, keep an eye on it, and if you feel really bad, or your shortness of breath gets worse, go back to Dr./E.R. You've just gotta stick it out, the drugs will help, but they take time to work. Hope you feel better soon!

I once suffered from Chronic Bronchitis. I would suffer sometimes 3 to 4 times per year! Usually when there was a major change in the pressure outside (I live in the north, and the temperature spikes and dips do wonders to chronic sufferers of bronchitis!). Each time I would get horrible hacking coughs, hoarking up green phlegm..it was so frustrating!

The key to getting rid of your bronchitis is to find a way to completely eliminate the germs that are causing all the phlegm and irritation leading to your hoarking cough and heavy breathing. Keep reading to learn how to do kill these germs!!

This page it will change your life and make you feel 100% better within just 24 hours!

call your doc today and tell him/her you havent improved. The Biaxin would kick in in about 48 to 72 hours if the organism was sensitive to it. The flovent is a waste in my opinion.

I was gonna suggest Prednisone. That is what they have me on, with antibiotics and some cough stuff. The prednisone helps with the inflammation in the lungs, is what they told me.

Go back to the doctor. It may now be Upper Respiratory Infection or maybe even Pneumonia.

I think you should go back to your doctor, I don't recognize those drugs but expect you would benefit from a short course of oral steroids and antibiotics.
