My grandmother was from St. Louis MO. and she used to make a bundt-like bread we called monkey bread(not the sweet kind) does any one know the recipe. It was kind of like a break away buttery kind of bread.

Ingredients:
2 large cans refrigerator biscuits
1/2 cup cinnamon & sugar mixed together
1 cup brown sugar
1 stick margarine or butter
1 cup chopped pecans
shortening

Directions:
Grease bottom of a bundt pan with shortening and line with chopped pecans. Cut biscuits into quarters. Dip biscuits in cinnamon & sugar mixture, then layer on top of pecans in bundt pan.

Melt brown sugar and butter in small saucepan over medium heat. Pour melted mixture over biscuits.
Bake at 350 d. until lightly browned. Allow a few minutes to cool then empty onto serving plate pecans side up.

here is the homemade version.

Monkey Bread
Categories: Dessert bre
Yield: 12 servings

1 c Milk
1/2 c Butter or margarine
1/4 c Sugar
1 ts Salt
1 pk Dry yeast
3 1/2 c All-purpose flour
1/2 c Butter or margarine; melted

Recipe by: Southern Living
Preparation Time: 0:25
Combine first 4 ingredients in a saucepan; heat until
butter melts. Cool to 105 degrees to 115 degrees. Add
yeast; stir until dissolved. Let stand 5 minutes. Combine
flour and milk mixture in a large bowl; stir until blended.
Cover and let rise in a warm place (85 degrees), free from
drafts, 1 hour and 20 minutes or until doubled in bulk.
Punch dough down, and shape into 1-1/2-inch balls; dip each
in melted butter. Layer balls in a greased 10-inch
one-piece tube pan or Bundt pan. Cover and repeat rising
procedure 45 minutes or until doubled. Bake at 375 degrees
for 35 minutes. Cool in pan 5 minutes; then invert.
Yield: one 10-inch ring

This is sooooooo GOOD!

QUICK MONKEY BREAD

1 package frozen (yeast) dinner rolls
1 package regular butterscotch pudding
1/4 cup chopped nuts
3/4 cup brown sugar
6 tablespoons melted butter

Grease bundt pan. Sprinkle nuts on bottom. Arrange rolls over nuts. Sprinkle dry pudding over rolls. Mix sugar and melted butter together and pour (drizzle) over rolls. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

Cover with towel and let rise over night or at least 8 hours.

Bake 350°F for 45 min to 1 hour.

COOL NO LONGER THAN 5 MINUTES. Turn pan over on serving dish and enjoy.

MEXICAN MONKEY BREAD

1/2 cup butter, melted
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
2 packages (about 16 ounces each) frozen bread dough, thawed and cut into 1-inch cubes
2 cups shredded Monterey Jack or Mexican blend cheese
2 cups French's® French Fried Onions
1 can (4 1/2 ounces) chopped green chilies, drained

Grease bottom and sides of 10-inch tube pan. In small bowl, combine melted butter and spices. Dip bread cubes, one at a time, into butter mixture. Place one third of the bread cubes into bottom of prepared pan. Sprinkle with 2/3 cup cheese, 2/3 cup French Fried Onions and one half of the chilies.

Repeat layer 1 more time. Top with final one-third of the bread cubes. Cover pan with plastic wrap. Let rest in draft-free place for 1 hour or until doubled in size. Preheat oven to 375° F . Bake 35 minutes until golden. Sprinkle with remaining cheese and onions. Bake 5 minutes until cheese melts and onions are golden. Loosen edges of bread; invert onto baking rack. Immediately invert onto serving platter. Serve warm.

You can buy it pre-made by Pillsbury in the frozen bread section of the grocery store. In the section with the cobblers and desserts. Just heat and serve.
