5.5 means your normal. Normal values range is 4-6 so anything in between is good. Whether this is with fasting or just after eating, your reading is normal.

That sounds like you may have used an HbA1C at home monitor which if this is the case 5.5 would be great. I personally have never used an at home monitor for this reading so I don't know the exact accuracy in comparison to going in to the labs and having it done. Otherwise My answer as far as where your blood sugars should be is in agreement with some of the other answers that being between 80-120.

It means you need to do it again if you're using a glucometer. There is another blood test called a HA1C that that reading might be applied and it has to be done in a lab. It is the average of your glucose for 3 months and there is a scale you should follow. Anything over 7.0 is high. The "finger prick" thing, should be reading in double or triple digets. Godloveya.

a reading of 5.5 with not fasting is very close to a normal reading anything between 4-6 is pretty much the norm

It's means you're normal. And for those of you who think that this reading is wrong...it's mmo/l. The US is the only country that uses mg/dl. 5.5 mmo/l is 99 mg/dl...and mmo/l is not the same as what an A1C would be. It's a totally different measurement.

Average readings should be 80 to 120 so I don't know what you are reading. Have you done the finger stick before?? or is this your first time?? Good luck. I guess, try again.
