Because back in the 70's 80's & early 90's it ran rampant in the gay community...Nowadays it is a completely ignorant statement! Anyone can get aids!

When scientists discovered HIV/AIDS they found it in 5 homosexual men and originally thought it was a "gay" disease.
The AIDS epidemic was discovered June 5, 1981, when the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported a cluster of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (now classified as Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia) in five homosexual men in Los Angeles. Originally dubbed GRID, or Gay-Related Immune Deficiency, health authorities soon realized that nearly half of the people identified with the syndrome were not homosexual men. In 1982, the CDC introduced the term AIDS to describe the newly recognized syndrome, though it was still casually referred to as GRID.

I remember years ago when HIV & AIDS was becoming widely known, people referred to it as a gay disease. However; with all the research and everything that's been learned about the disease thus far, we SHOULD ALL KNOW THAT ANYONE CAN GET HIV / AIDS. Woman or man; heterosexual, bi-sexual or gay. You get it from the transfer of bodily fluids. Blood, semen, secretion, salava.......etc.
It was heterosexuals trying to ease themselves that they were exempt from getting the disease. We need to all be well informed.
