The best way to teach your dog not to bark is to teach him/her to bark on command "speak" when you then teach him/her to be quiet on command than when he she barks u can say "quiet " or which ever command u would use and will hopefully stop he/she from barking
And remember positive re-enforcement works better than belting the dog... and DO NOT resort to anti bark or shock collars as they are inhumane and shouldn't be on the market...
hope that helps

C'mon, dogs are dogs, and they bark :-) It seems that your dog has a very strong guarding/protection instinct and she takes the task of warning and calling the pack together very seriously. It may be that she perceives the open door as a dangerous situation and she decided to guard it. This is not at all uncommon, the late GSD of my parents would behave exactly the same way when they left the door open. Just for a fast relief: maybe investing in a doggie-door would help? The first dog would have an option to go out and the barking one wouldn't most probably mind. As a short term solution, wearing a muzzle (lightweight, breathable one can limit the barking. Then, you will need to have a closer look at barking behaviors of the second dog. How is she behaving? Is she concerned? Aggressive? Fearful? Without understanding what causes her to behave like that everything you may try are just quick fixes - which, as you have already seen may or may not work. A good start os to understand your dog's body language better, there is a wonderful book by Turid Rudgass "On talking terms with dogs" - I highly recommend it. Then there is a nice watchdog behavior explanation in Stanley Coren's "Intelligence of dogs". Dr. Ian Dunbar has a section on correcting barking behaviors with positive methods in his book "How to teach a new dog old tricks" Why these books? Because for me (and many others I shared my knowledge with) they proved to provide much sounder advice that these bunches of Cesar Milan's clones wannabe dog "trainers". It'd be also interesting why the first dog pees inside: are there some health issues or the potty training is incompete? I know, I've written a lot, but I believe there may not necessary be a quick fix to your problem.

I have a jack russell who liked to go outside late at night just to have a bark. I bought an anti-bark collar off ebay. it doesnt give an electric shock just makes a high pitched noise when the dog barks. My dog wore it for a few nights and then stopped barking. Now he knows what the collar is for and i dont even have to turn it on,,, just put it on him and let him out.

Many dogs bark out of sheer boredom from not much interaction with their 'family'. Try letting him in the house more, or at least playing very hard daily with him - enough to make him too tired to bark.

your problem really by a large extent depends on the breed of dog. Some toy dog breeds such as pomeranians will bark no matter what, it may be just the breed. However you can try to lessen it by allowing your dog to know through one word commands that you dont want him to do it.

My friend brought this DVD from ebay that trains dogs to get used to tons of noises - like fireworks, trains, cars, babys crying, doors slamming.... the list was pretty endless! It plays the noises quietly then it gets gradually louder, its supposed to be really effective.
You could try it out.
