very sad poem but while there are people like myself and my other rescue friends about, this dog will have been picked up by one of us and loved back to health.
In reply, I made up this poem.
I sat by the road where you dumped me one day,
I thought that it wasn't a nice trick to play,
I sat there for hours, became tired and afraid,
Were it not for this lady, there I'd have stayed.
Instead of abuse, harsh words and slaps,
I can now rest my head on a number of laps,
I get stroked and hugged and told I am good,
I get food and a warm bed as any dog should,
The day that you left me seemed scarey and bad,
But now I'm well loved so I should have been glad.
If I'd known that your cruelty would lead me to this,
I'd have got out of the car quicker, cos this place is BLISS!!

Oh that's so sad and I could cry, I love my dog so much and reading that poem makes me think about the life she had before we got her, shes a rescue dog and was so badly treated by her previous owners, believe it or not we got her at 12 months old and we were her fifth owners, shes a beautiful golden retriever, shes 11 years old now, when she came to us she was so thin she looked like a whippet, she had cigarette burns under her chin and she had mange, she was starved of food, love and affection, didn't know what grass was and we had to teach her to walk on it and not be afraid, even after all these years I would still like to get my hands on the people that hurt her so much, how can the people who hurt any animal even call themselves human, they are the scum of the earth and your right they don't deserve to live.

It is a sad fact of life but very common here in Spain for owners either to just open their gates and put their dogs out or, more commonly, they tie them to the dustbins at the urbanisations where there are a lot of Brits living.
They know the Brits have a soft heart and that someone will find the dog(s) and the word goes around and the Brits rehome them.
Also what is as bad is that puppies are just abandoned when they are too small to leave their mothers and the animal refuges are over-run with them.
We have 5 dogs, one of them adopted us, she had been abandoned in the Orange Groves and had been beaten, kicked and shot at!
Luckily, we have had her for over a year, and she is just like the others now, very happy.
The same applies to cats and kittens I'm afraid, we also have 2 grown up cats abandoned, and we got 2 - 3 week old kittens that we had to hand rear, they are now mischievous 2 month olds - but we honestly couldn't take any more animals!

Check the reply of 'fenlandfowl' to the question asked by you...she is great to have replied with that poem. That's how it should be. Think 'Happy thoughts'. Work towards making the world a better place in your own little way. There are a lot of good people too out there who are compassionate towards animals.

It upsets me that people get dog and then after the they out grow the puppy stage and they find out how hard it is to have a dog or cat they get rid of it by dropping it of on the side of the road and the animal does not now to fined for it self and things happen if people had take a lince to have a pet there would be fewer pet owners out there.

That poem is horriable and really upsetting it actually bought tears to my eyes and turned my stomach there should definately be a stronger punishment for any type of animal cruelty than there already is that poem has just made me want to go out and help strays and we already have two dogs one rescued and one my partner already owned.
People are sick and twisted that abuse animals if there capable of doing that then there capable of doing anything as they have no conscience or heart!!!!!!!

What a sad poem, it also brought a tear to my eye. Thanks Fenlandfowl for your response poem. And GetEmGang, with nothing better to do than sit at his puter and blubber and post answers to questions just to be an ***. He needs to go play in the street with a blindfold on.

so sad but very true, that is why i do rescue, to try and save these poor dogs from the side of the lonely road they are left at. It is very heart breaking to find a lonely, sad, lost abandoned pet looking and waiting for their best friend to come back
