asp is the technology whose full form is active server pages & it it is used todevelope webpages.the latest version of asp is microsofts .net frame work,known as asp.net.this is used to develope web pages & the extension for webpages is .aspx.to understand asp.net better u need a little knowledge of html,xml & databases.

we use asp and asp.net to write web based applications. i.e. u have a banking software. if it is written for one bank, that software works only within that bank. may be bank has a network of computers. so the software works in all the sys with in that bank. assume ur bank is in delhi and u are in b'lore. now u want to request cheq book or transfer cash. if the software is web based, u can just login to bank's web site and do all the work sitting at home. asp or asp.net helps u to write such kind of web based applications.
