If you literally are carrying a cross it means somebody has actually noticed you are carrying a couple bits of joined wood over your shoulder... otherwise it probably means that you are struggling to carry a heavy burden... but if somebody is being sarcastic they will mean you are playing the martyr...get over it.

That you alone have a heavy load to bear:i.e. you have sick aging parents and you are an only child. Yes it will be hard but you will take care of them because you love them.Like Jesus carried the cross you will be strong too.

contrary to what the media or advertising guru`s tell you life entails a lot of suffering, and is not all fun,fun, fun.
why we suffer is for the most part a mystery, but jesus by his death on the cross, gave our human suffering a dignified purpose, when we suffer and unite our suffering to his then we are said to be carrying our cross in imitation of christ.

carrying a cross means to pine for someone or to fight for a cause.....almost like a personal war....
