I'm 32 years old and for some odd reason I have an urge to learn to stand on my hands and balance that way for a few seconds. I am increasing my upper body strength but i should have enough at this time. I have been balancing my entire frame by leaning against a dancers stretching bar (horizontal)and i also have had a friend hold my legs up for me. Any other ideas and how long might htis take? How much practice?

Tighten your core muscles is the key. If you can keep your abdomen centered, you will be able to control your legs. You can master any physical technique with time.

Quite a bit. Against a wall can also be done, use your feet to keep yourself balanced
